Description
Misericordia Church. Senhora da Soledade. Miranda do Douro, Portugal.
Misericórdia Church built in the 16th century and renovated in the 17th, with a rectangular plan composed of a single nave and chancel, with a dispatch room adjoining the left side facade, open to the nave through a gallery. It has the main façade in stonework, executed by Belchior Fernandes, defined by pilasters crowned by pinnacles, ended in a truncated gable by a bell tower, although the 1687 project defined a triple bell tower, which would be abandoned by the pollsters because it was neither "decent" nor common in the region's Misericórdias. It is ripped through a Mannerist portal, with a perfect round arch between columns supporting entablature, topped by a niche, shells and pinnacles, and two side windows, already outlined in Baroque.
