Description
Church of Hafnir, Reykjanesbær, Iceland.
Kirkjuvogskirkja is a church in Höfn in Reykjanesbær. The church was built 1860-1861. She is in the Grindavík priesthood in Kjalarnes test case. The church cost 300 cows. Vilhjálmur Kr. Hakonarson had the church built at his expense. The church is a wooden church beaten on the outside with white windows.
Reykjanesbær is a municipality on the Southern Peninsula (Suðurnes) in Iceland. It is made up of the towns Keflavík, Njarðvík and the village of Hafnir. The municipality was created in 1994 when the inhabitants of the three towns voted to merge them into one.
In 1881, the American ship Jamestown ran aground off Hafnir with no one aboard. Its cargo of timber was salvaged and sold off. The ship's anchor is on display outside the village church. (Description from Wikipedia)
