Description
In the west of the province of Salamanca, Spain, this fortress is standing and it is a clear example of the frontier ups and downs and disputes. According to the chronicles, it was built in the 13th century by Don Dinis, a Portuguese King, although it was finished in the 15th century.
It looks like a palace-fortress and it is located in one of the end of the town. Its irregular design remains adapted to the peculiarities of the setting; we can still see the remains of the antique moat and the old wall. The bastioned defenses built in the 18th century on the occasion of the Independence War can also be seen.
Special mention deserves the Tower keep, which can be seen from many places around. It has three floors and its inner part houses the Historic Hall of the town and a didactic exhibition about the Frontier Fortifications. (Description: http://www.salamancaemocion.es/)
