Description
Nunez de Arce Street is in Madrid,Spain, between Cross Street and Plaza de Santa Ana. It receives this name from the year 1904 in honor of poet and playwright Gaspar Nunez de Arce born in 1834 and died a year before the acquisition of the name of the street.
Originally this street was called Street of the "Gorguera" (Ruff) and there are several thesis that would give explanation to the name. One of them would point to the fact that on this street resided Maria Molas, a known ruff by his spells wich was condemned for it. Well, it seems, of this despair name could derive the name of Gorguera. On the other hand another theory says that the gorguera was a neck decoration in the 17th century and that there was a factory of these on this street.
