Description
Javier Ruibal singing and playing guitar at Cafe Central, Madrid, Spain in 2013.
Javier Ruibal is a Spanish musician and songwriter.
He is highly regarded for his vocal talent and for blending the musical traditions of flamenco, jazz, and the Maghreb to develop his own personal style.
He plays the guitar and is usually accompanied by another guitar player, first Antonio Toledo and since around 2000 Tito Alcedo, and occasionally by more musicians such as John Parsons, Jorge Pardo and Chano Domínguez. He has ventured beyond Spain to appear at venues in Algeria, England, the West Bank and New York City.
Ruibal has composed music for several other Spanish artists and famous singers; some, such as Ana Belén or David Broza, have sung his compositions. He also appeared on stage together with artists such as Pablo Milanés, Joaquín Sabina, and Carlos Cano.
Since it opened its doors in 1982, Café Central has been committed to a love of good jazz, with more than 8,000 live shows under its belt. In 1988 the owners took a further step into the genre and started bringing over true jazz legends such as George Adams and Lou Bennett. Café Central is based in an old in a building dating back to 1908, where a group of friends decided to offer the capital a place to relax to the rhythm of Eliseo Parra, Martirio and Latcho Drom, although nowadays they also feature other styles such as Flamenco and Fado.
Using their usual top-quality criteria, in 2002 the prestigious American jazz magazine Down Beat named Café Central as one of the best places in the world to listen to jazz, the only Spanish venue to make the list. (Description from Wikipedia and esmadrid.com)
