Description
Camariñas is a municipality in the province of A Coruña in the autonomous community of Galicia in northwestern Spain. It belongs to the comarca of Tierra de Soneira. An important fishing center, it is renowned all over Spain by the bobbin lace work of its women (the palilleiras).
To the northwest are the impressive cliffs of Cape Vilan (Cabo Vilán "Cape Villain", due to bad currents and many wrecks), a protected natural site.
Camariñas is a seaside village known for its production of bobbin lace and for its natural and environmental riches, of which the emblematic Cape Vilán lighthouse has been a witness through the years. It is located on a peninsula, one side of which overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and the other one, the calm ria waters shared with the neighbouring municipality of Muxía. Camariñas is named after the caramiña bush (Corema album).
The village economy is reliant on the marine sector. Our fishing port is the major port in the Costa da Morte, important for its production of sardine and octopus. (Description from Wikipedia and turismocamarinas.net).
